Dear Friend, Your Resurrection is Coming
There is an incredible passage in Acts 9 that tells the dramatic story of a widow’s passing and the Lord’s gracious intervention to restore her life. In Acts 9:36-42, a woman named Tabitha has died. The Bible tells us “she was always doing good and helping the poor” (Acts 9:36).
When Peter hears she has passed, he goes to her room. The many widows Tabitha has helped stand around him, crying in anguish. Peter then “sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, ‘Tabitha, get up.’ She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive.” (Acts 9:40-41)
As I read this passage today, I was suddenly struck by the reality that there are many right now who feel a bit like Tabitha before her resurrection. You’ve suffered loss, defeat, discouragement, and you feel a bit like death is closing in. Maybe not literally, but indeed metaphorically. You are heartbroken and hopeless. You wonder if you will ever feel alive again. Your soul is shattered. Your spirit is broken.
To you, dear friend, I just want to say … I believe your resurrection is coming. By the power of Jesus Christ, Peter resurrected Tabitha. He brought her to new life and then presented her alive and well to those who were mourning her loss and “many people believed in the Lord” because of it.
The God who resurrected Tabitha in the first century can resurrect you too. He can heal your shattered heart, restore life to your broken bones, breathe breath into your parched and starving soul. He can mend family units; He can heal sick bodies; He can bring home the wayward child; He can soften the hardened heart.
And today, as I read this passage I was overwhelmed by the reality that if He did it then, He can do it again. For you, for me, for us. So this new year, I pray a spirit of resurrection power overwhelms you. This God who makes beauty from ashes is still working out beauty for you. Don’t give up. Hang on.
Your resurrection is coming.

My family has been going through our most difficult, trying season to date. To put it that way just doesn’t even give it justice, honestly. What a blessing it was to find your devotion for today in my email. I needed that. My husband really needed that. We’re gonna make it through, by the grace of God. Our resurrection is coming. Thanks for giving me a little hope, a little light in our darkness.
I’m so sorry you’re going through such a dark time. The light is coming. I believe it. I pray you know that with overwhelming conviction. The Lord is leading you through the darkness and into the dawn.
