Announcing the FIRST Faith and Composition Reading Group
Vulnerability, transparency, accountability … it’s often a difficult thing to put skin on those words. They require a certain amount of dying to self, a humility, a confession of fears and shortcomings.
Throughout the past month and a half, I’ve led a small-group study of Emily Freeman’s Grace for the Good Girl. Each week I’ve gathered around a table with a group of women to discuss some of these issues and the multiples ways we mask our own insecurities. The study has been fluid and rather unscripted, with little homework and a flexible schedule.
And although the weekly requirements have been light, some of the conversations have been heavy. There have been a few tears shed, interspersed by moments of merciful laughter. Why? Because we’ve made an effort to be honest about some of our struggles and the way God meets us in the midst. The result has been a rather refreshing study that has waved the banner of grace over all who’ve attended. It’s been a bit like a big breath of fresh air.
And now I’m excited to offer the same opportunity to you!
Starting Monday, I will be hosting an online women’s study of Grace for the Good Girl right here on the blog. It will be the first time I’ve hosted a group study of any kind on this space, so truth be told, I’m not entirely sure how it will all work out. But I’m learning that perfection is the thief of joy, and if I wait to have every detail perfected, I’ll never do it. So we’re going to go ahead and jump right in. After all, grace is the banner of the book, and I’m going to let it guide the logistics of this study too.
Have I piqued your curiosity? It couldn’t be any easier to join.
Here are the details:
Download the BookShout! app for your phone or go to BookShout.com. Once there, create an account, if you don’t already have one. (BookShout! is an e-reading platform that allows users to comment on the text, as well as read comments from other users. They have graciously created a Faith&Composition reading group, which will allow those of us in the group to interact with one another as we read through the book.)
Next, click here to purchase the book. For a 40% off discount code, subscribe to F&C by entering your e mail in the box to the sidebar at the right. Then just click “I want to Follow F&C!” The 40% off coupon code will arrive in your inbox shortly. Current subscribers, you’ll have to unsubscribe and then re-subscribe to get the discount. I wish I knew of a better way, but I unfortunately don’t.
After completing your purchase, you will automatically be added to the “Finding Grace with Faith & Composition” reading circle. As others join the group, they will be added to the reading circle as well, and we will be able to interact with one another as a collective group.
(If you’d rather buy the hard copy or use another e-reading service, that’s fine! You can still read along with us, you just won’t have the opportunity to interact with others in the group via notes throughout the book.)
Once you’ve downloaded the book and have been added to the reading circle, you’re good to go!
Each Monday for the next seven weeks, I will post the reading assignment for that week, as well as questions for discussion/reflection. I will be posting the first reading assignment Monday, May 5!
Will you be joining us? I certainly hope so! You can take it at your own speed and comment as little or as much as you’d like. And if you’d like to take it a step deeper, gather a friend or a small group of women to go through the study with you. Then try to meet once a week to talk about the discussion questions. Feel free also to leave comments here on the blog.
I’m so excited to see what may come of this, and I’m thrilled about the opportunity to hear some of your thoughts as we read the book together! So go ahead, hop on over to BookShout! to get the book, and share this with a few friends to invite them to join you. Then meet me back here on Monday. See ya then!
