Spring Refresh
We just completed a mini renovation in our daughters’ room, and I couldn’t wait to share it with you. I’m in the process of working out some final details before I share the entire room reveal, but this built-in wardrobe turned out so beautifully, I wanted to give you a sneak peek.
With our three youngest girls sharing one room, their current dresser and closet weren’t cutting it. They needed functional storage space for clothing, accessories and a few toys and craft items. I also wanted to be able to close off the doors to maintain a clean, seamless aesthetic.
We debated various solutions. But after much debate we ultimately opted to install the Ikea Pax wardrobe system and trim it out with custom cabinetry. The modular, customizable PAX system offers an array of design and functionality options, which makes it a versatile choice.
Process
I wish I could say we DIYed this, but my husband and I both knew we simply didn’t have the margin at the moment. My dad installed the system and secured it to the wall, and we hired a craftsman to build a custom upper cabinet with matching doors. He also trimmed out the sides of the wardrobe and tied the piece into the rest of the space with the addition of crown moulding throughout the room.
Since IKEA pieces can be tricky to paint, we opted to hire a painting crew. I originally chose a deep, moody green (Sherwin Williams Garden Gate 6167), but I ultimately changed my mind when I saw the unit in the room. It occupies so much visual space, I was afraid the dark tones would swallow too much light. Much of the cabinetry throughout our house is Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray, so I wanted a color that would complement that tone without competing. Ultimately I settled on Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige, and I’m thrilled with the result. If you’re looking for the perfect neutral griege, Accessible Beige is it!
I’m delighted to show you the rest of the room reveal soon, but until then, drop any questions you may have in the comments section, and I’ll do my best to get back to you.
