Kicking Off Week 5 of the Reading Group
Today we’re kicking off week 5 of the reading group (click for week 1, week 2, week 3, week 4). If you’ve been joining us as we journey through Emily Freeman’s Grace for the Good Girl, I’m so thrilled to have you along! And if you’ve yet to hop in, but you’d like to see what it’s all about, it’s never too late to join. You can get all the details right here, then feel free to take it at your own pace. Use this reading group as an opportunity to dig a bit deeper into the book on your own, or use these questions to host your own small-group study. WELCOME TO WEEK 5
This week’s reading covers chapters 12, 13, 14. As you read, consider the following questions for reflection, or use these as as a source of discussion for a larger group study.
Have you had moments where a situation or circumstance has moved you beyond a surface relationship with Jesus and into deep fellowship with him that resulted in true intimacy with the Living God? If so, what happened?
Like Moses (Exodus 3:11), do you ever find yourself asking: “Who am I that I should do … ?” What does that question infer about WHERE you are putting your faith?
Contrast Moses’ response to God with Mary’s response to Gabriel in Luke 1:26-38. What did Mary’s response indicate about her faith vs. Moses’ response?
Read John 15:1-5. How can you remain in God even when the busyness of life demands so much from you? Give some tangible examples.
Is worship something you do as a Christian obligation? Or is it the overflow from a grateful heart that affects everything you do? If worship is the former for you, how can you change it from a “to-do” into a way of living your daily life?
We tend to confine worship to a place (church) or an action (prayer or praise). But Colossians 3:17 says “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Is it difficult for you to imagine your daily living as worship? Why or why not? How can we intentionally let worship overflow into all areas of our lives?
Read Colossians 3:2. What emotions do you default to when your mind is not set on things above?
How can you keep your mind focused on things above when the flesh wants to pull your thoughts to the things of this world?
